略歴
中学校で陸上競技を始める。
早稲田大学在学中の2001年の冬、骨肉腫を発症し2002年4月に右足膝下を切断。
2003年1月から義足で走り幅跳びに挑戦、2004年のアテネパラリンピックから3大会連続で出場。2013年3月東京2020大会招致委員会プレゼンターとしてIOC総会でスピーチを務めた。2016年、練習の一環で続けていたトライアスロンに転向し、2017年の世界選手権で初出場・初優勝を飾った。
現在は、サントリーに所属し東京都でトレーニングを行う。
Biography:
Mami started athletics in junior high school. During the winter of 2001 when she was a student at Waseda University, Mami suffered bone cancer and was amputated below the right knee in April 2002. She began her challenge in long jump with a prosthetic limb from January 2003 and participated in three consecutive Paralympic Games starting Athens 2004. In March 2013, she gave a speech at the IOC Congress as the presenter of the Olympic Bid Committee for Tokyo 2020. As part of her training, she was practicing triathlon and made a switch to the sport in 2016, winning her first gold medal at her first World Championships the following year. Currently, she belongs to Suntory and trains in Tokyo.
